Access Statement

Wareham Forest Tourist Park welcomes guests without prejudices or discrimination and to this end we will do whatever we can to accommodate our customer’s needs.

Our park is a level park with wide roads laid to shingle, and with concrete access to all the buildings. The shingle is unfortunately, not the easiest for wheelchairs, pushchairs and mobility scooters, especially with narrow tyres, but we do have many people stay with us without any problems. There are extra large fully serviced pitches available during the summer season providing water and grey water drainage, some have their own picnic tables. All of our hard-standing and grass pitches have parking adjacent to the customers’ unit and most are on firm flat ground.

The park is served with 16-amp electric hook ups to cater for most needs, with water points and grey water drains conveniently sited around the park. All of the public buildings on the park, including the reception and tourist information are on one level and have wide doors for wheelchair, pushchair and mobility scooter access. Both toilet facility buildings have double entrance doors. There is a wheelchair ramp to each facility building. One facility building contains a disabled/family/non-gender room comprising of a toilet with full supports, a shower (without a step), also a foldaway seat and handrail supports as well as a washbasin, low level mirrors, and a baby changing station. The other facility building has a separate disabled/family/non-gender rooms. The disable room is spacious and contains a toilet with handrail support, a large shower, with hand rail support, as well as a washbasin, low level mirrors and a baby changing station. If it would be helpful for you, we will try and reserve a pitch as near as possible to the toilet block if you let us have full details of your request when you make your reservation.

We take the safety of our guests very seriously and therefore there is a 5mph speed limit throughout the park with clearly marked speed bumps in several locations. The speed bumps are gentle and their presence makes the park safer for everyone. At night we operate a low light pollution policy, and advise everyone to use torches when moving around after dark. We have many lovely woodland walks, with wide wooden pedestrian bridges over the streams. We ask that care be taken within this natural environment of uneven ground, tree roots and rabbit holes.

The park has a licenced shop that caters for most requirements, including freshly baked bread in the summer and a selection of caravan and camping spares. There are larger supermarkets nearby and reception can provide directions if required.

The heated outdoor swimming pool is accessed via steps. The depth at the shallow end is 1 metre increasing gradually to 1.4 metres at the deepest. There is also a paddling pool for younger children. The surrounding area has level access and is laid to slabs and grass with picnic benches and sun umbrellas. We have no constant poolside supervision, so under 16’s require parental supervision at all times. The pool is located next to reception, which is staffed during pool opening hours with a turnstile operational system and large gate for easy access for all.

There is a direct bus service from the park directly to Swanage (disabled access) with drop off points along the way commencing service mid May until the Mid September 2024 and local taxi companies (that can provide wheelchair accessible transport) available throughout the year. A main line railway station is 2 ½ miles away with links to Poole, Bournemouth, Weymouth and further afield if required.

Dogs are most welcome on the park, but we do ask that they are kept on a lead, and that you clear up after them. If an assistance dog may not be kept on a lead, then this should be discussed at the time of booking. Please note that unfortunately dogs cannot be left unattended in caravans.

Reception is available from 8.30am to 6.00pm during High Season, and 8.30am to 5.00pm at all other times. For emergencies outside of these hours the duty warden can be contacted either by the doorbell on the right of the outer door or by telephoning an emergency number. We have staff with experience in dealing with those who are hard of hearing or have visual impairment. We also have written guidance and large text documents if required.

Unfortunately there is limited reception on most mobile networks in the forest, but complimentary WiFi is available, please ask reception for any assistance required with logging on. A free local call phone box is available with single level access. Television reception needs a good aerial, preferably on a pole, to get a reasonable signal. Complimentary WiFi enables you to use a Smart TV and Firestick. Our superior pitches are available with a television aerial plug in socket..

The park owners, Tony and Sarah Birch, reside on the park and along with the wardens who will be happy to discuss any requirements you may have. If you feel you require help at anytime before or during your visit please mention this when booking and we will be delighted to assist if possible.
